The gangThe Orks were the last Warhammer Miniatures I painted before moving to Owego and retiring from “the business”, as it were. These blokes are really an oddball in my collection - Peyton bought the models and added a bit of paint, then Mason bought them off him, and added a bit more paint. Lastly, I bought them off Mason (okay, being honest, I think I took them for free), and added a fresh coat of paint over most parts of most models.
I really just wanted a boatload of Orks and nothing could stop me - I 3D printed bits and stole gear from unpainted models in order to get more Orks assembled. I did almost everything in one big batch, doing the skin on all the models, then the metal on all of them, etc. In retrospect, I was a bit hasty with this faction, as we’ll soon see, but I’m happy with how vibrant the end result was.

3. This is a great example of an Ork who looks fine as part of a huge squad, but when you look closer, you’ll see that the horns never got painted and are the primer grey. Plus, the metal bits are just a silver drybrush over black paint. I could have done a nice rust effect, and did so for most of the other Orks. Compare and contrast the metal on this model with the next image.
4. You see it right? Fortunately, I think the Hulk-green skin, and colorful red/yellow/purple/checkered highlighting distracts your eye from the unsavory bits.

14. A unique angle to show off the Orks’, uh… biology. The newer Ork sculpts on the market could never match the classic ones’ charm.

32. All these Burnas (flamethrower Orks) are sort of low effort, lacking the care taken into metallics and panel highlighting you see on most of the other Ork Boys…

34. …not this one though. The weapon is totally kitbashed and I put effort into the paintjob to match.
35. Sometimes I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. I know that I have a higher level of scrutiny for the models because I’m the one who painted them, but you can see how this model looks less good than the preceeding or following pictures, right?

47. This is the only fully 3D printed model in the army. I have at least one really awesome 3D printed vehicle that I never got around to painting though. Alas.
48. The banner is made from painted toothpicks and an Orky image I printed out and glued on. The weapon is my creation too, i like this model a lot. I don’t even think there’s a weapon/role for “banner carrier” in the Orks roster, I just thought the idea was cool.
49. This Warboss might be my favorite model I’ve painted! I don’t have a particular reason, its just a cool model and I got the chance to do all the fun colors and patterns I had done on other Orks. For the life of me I could not tell you if this model ever saw tabletop play, but I can like, visualize a 3D painted rendering of this model in my mind.
50. Ork Trukk, this one is fully 3D printed too, actually. For those not in the loop, old-school rules (like, before I was born old-school) were that an Ork Trukk could hold as many models as could be physically stacked on top. Given the ramshackle nature of the faction, I totally could have built this from scratch instead of printing it, but no worries, I love how this turned out.
